Commissar Putin just gave the Italian salute to President Obama and the rest of the West by putting a small contingent of troops into Syria to help Assad more efficiently kill his citizens. There has been talk of Western intervention in Syria as in Libya (not a good idea) and this is a blocking move by Russia to head off such a plan. It is also designed to ingratiate the Russians with Iran, who are also heavily supporting Assad. Iran wants a puppet on Israel's border so it can pull the strings with terrorist raids against the "Zionists." Israel will do whatever it needs to do to protect itself, but the stakes just went up. Meanwhile from Washington the sound of crickets is heard. How's that rebooting of our relationship with the Russians going, Mr. President?
